The intention of this gathering is to ensure that these lamas have a genuine education in Buddhist view and tantric ritual meditation practice so that they may preserve their familial and cultural Buddhist traditions in their communities. Without programs like this their traditions are vanishing with each generation. At the conclusion of the twelve day course many of the lamas will enter retreat for two to three months to further internalize the teachings they have received.

The final day of the Lama Gathering was a very unique and special one. Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche along with the senior lamas and monks of the monastery and retreat center at Asura Cave led everyone in the Rinchen Trengwa or Jewel Garland Chod practice. This practice is the most extensive chod practice that was compiled by the Third Karmapa and was a favorite of the late Kyabje Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche and his consort Kunzang Dechen. Together with the full day of practice Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche gave the empowerment from the Chod tradition. In the late evening the organizers of the event made offerings and expressed their gratitude for the continuation of this important gathering.
